When people from UAE plan a trip to Africa, Kenya and Tanzania usually comes first in mind but Uganda is now getting a lot of attention also, mainly because of the mountain gorillas in Bwindi and the source of the Nile at Jinja. But first things first, sort out your Uganda visa from Dubai. Remember that visa on arrival is no longer available. Anyone travelling to the country will need to apply for an online visa through the e-visa portal before flying. However, know that the documents matter a lot. If something is missing, unclear or uploaded incorrectly, your application can be delayed. Let’s find out exactly what you need and how you should prepare each document. A little care at the beginning can save you from a lot of trouble later.

Below is the complete list in one place so you can keep it handy while filling the form.

Document What is needed Tip from our side
Passport Valid for minimum 6 months from entry date with at least one blank page Upload clear colour scan of bio page with all four corners visible
Passport size photo Recent photo with plain white background No selfies, no glasses, face should be clearly visible
Yellow fever certificate Mandatory for everyone above 1 year of age Take vaccine at least 10 days before travel and carry the original card
Return flight ticket Confirmed or reserved Dubai to Entebbe and back Dates should match the dates you enter in the form
Hotel booking or safari confirmation Proof of where you will stay in Uganda Name on booking must match passport spelling
Invitation letter (if applicable) Needed when staying with friend or family Attach host ID copy along with the letter
UAE residence visa and Emirates ID copy For expats applying from Dubai Make sure UAE visa is valid till you return

1. Passport and Photo

These two looks very basic but majority of the rejections we see comes from here only. Suppose your passport expires in five months, then the application will not be approved even if all other documents are perfect. Same with the photo, a picture clicked on mobile in front of a cupboard is not accepted. Better to get a proper passport photo done from any photo studio in Dubai, it costs around AED 20 to 30 and saves you from the trouble.

2. Yellow Fever Certificate

When its about Uganda, this certificate is the one document you cannot skip. You have to upload it during the application and the immigration at Entebbe airport can ask for the original card also. In UAE the vaccine is available at DHA approved clinics and some private hospitals. My suggestion is to take it at least two weeks before your travel because the certificate becomes valid only 10 days after the vaccination.

3. Flight and Hotel Bookings

The immigration want to see that you have a clear plan and you will come back. A return ticket from Dubai to Entebbe and a hotel or safari booking does the job here. You don’t need to pay full amount for the hotel, a confirmed reservation is enough in most cases. Be it the dates on your ticket and hotel bookingor the visa application form, all information should match. Visa officers are very particular when it comes to travel details – so it’s better to keep everything clean.

4. Documents for UAE Residents

Just make sure to keep a copy of your UAE residence visa and Emirates ID handy if you are an expat living in Dubai. These are not always asked in the online form but they show that you are legally staying in UAE and will return back after the trip. Some nationalities may also be asked for bank statement, so having the last three months statement ready is a big plus point.

5. Visa Type and Fee

The ordinary single entry tourist visa costs USD 50 and the East Africa Tourist Visa costs USD 100 if you are covering Kenya and Rwanda also in the same trip. Pay only on the official government portal because there are many third party websites that charge double or triple fee. Also keep in mind that the fee is not refunded if the visa gets rejected.
